Hello again, old friends!
With the first official draft of my fourth novel off to my agent, I turned my attention this week to my third book All the Summers In Between, which comes out on June 4th. First, I need to begin by saying All the Summers is now available for pre-order on Amazon, Bookshop, Barnes and Noble, and wherever books are sold. If you’re ever curious how to support an author, it’s in pressing the button on the preorder, so if you’re so inclined to throw a little love my way, I would truly appreciate it.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
When we were in the early stages of planning the cover for All the Summers In Between, my editor asked me if I had any artwork that would inspire the designer. I immediately sent the link to one of my favorite artists, T.S. Harris; I have this painting of Harris’s in my study and this painting of hers in my dining room at my beach cottage and this painting in the sunny spot by the back doors. I’ve always felt like her moody paintings of women at mid-century captured the mood of my writing, and I crossed my fingers that the design department at Gallery thought the same.
Imagine my surprise when this cover landed in my inbox. THIS COVER!
Omg, I love it so much. Not only is it eye-catching with its nod to the mid-century bikini and pool and colors, but I adore that there’s a shadowy feeling in the way the sun hits her. You get the sense that you’re looking at a beautiful picture and an innocent woman, yet something complicated is going on in the background, something you can’t see, and that’s exactly how I would describe my next book.
Here’s the full synopsis:
"If you're looking to dive into historical fiction this summer, look no further than" (Town & Country) acclaimed author Brooke Lea Foster and her latest page-turning novel about two estranged friends whose unexpected reconnection in the Hamptons forces them to finally confront the terrible event that drove them apart.
When wealthy, impulsive summer girl Margot meets hardworking and steady local girl Thea in the summer of 1967, the unlikely pair become fast friends, working alongside one another in a record store and spending every spare moment together. But after an unspeakable incident on one devastating August night, they don't see one another for ten years...until Margot suddenly reappears in Thea's life, begging for help and harboring more than one dangerous secret. Thea can't bring herself to refuse her beloved friend--but she also knows she can't fully trust her either.
Unfulfilled as a housewife, Thea enjoys the dazzling sense of adventure Margot brings to her life, but will the truth of what happened to them that fateful summer ruin everything? Testing the boundaries of how far she'll go for a friend, Thea is forced to reckon with her uncertain future while trying to decide if some friends are meant to remain in the past.
Set in the dual timelines of 1967 and 1977, All the Summers In Between is at once a mesmerizing portrait of a complex friendship, a delicious glimpse into a bygone Hamptons, and a powerful coming-of-age for two young women during a transformative era.
I'm so excited for your new book next year and the cover is gorgeous!
