Lovely! Let’s go back. I lived in NYC on and off in the 60s (and then 70s and thereafter). I loved it it the 60s, waiting for the bus in a mini-skirt, not so mini as today, in the freezing cold, or in a straight skirt fairly snug—until the pant suit was “invented” and we could make faster strides to work. There were fewer preocupations. The world was smaller, even in New York.
I love that idea of you waiting for the bus in a mini-skirt -- I can see it!! You'll have to email me pictures of you in the 60s in New York. Would love to see!! xo
My novel-in-progress starts in '68, so I've been researching too. Everything about these photos, from the things you describe to the fashions, resonates with me. Even as a child at that time, I would have been snuggling with a book in a corner of a store like these. I long for the days when there wasn't so much "noise." It's more challenging to find or even create that kind of peaceful environment now.
These are amazing! I live in the Bronx and was quite unsettled by the color of the sky yesterday. It’s good to see the continuity of the city illustrated so beautifully. Thank you for sharing!
Wow, I love these pictures. Thank you for sharing!
Right? So glad that you saw what I could see!

I love these photos! (and also love the idea of a bookstore for "literate insomniacs!" They need to bring that back!! :-)
