That house is dreamy! Love the vintage photos. I just have the random personal photo screensaver on my laptop & a lit of the photos are from travels over the years, which ai think helps me get into the right headspace for The Wandering Writer.
My first creative writing assignment in high school was to write a story about a unique photo our teacher gave to each one of us. It was a great exercise and I still think about it!
Some 45 years ago, I was a very young woman with a 6 month old child the first and only time I went to Martha's Vineyard with my then husband and family that lived in Boston. He had spent his summers on MV as a youth at some kind of a camp in Edgartown. I remember when we got off the ferry and started walking around it seemed really depressing to me. I didn't understand why people wanted to go there. I guess I didn't realize that there was so much more to MV than that one place we went. Loved seeing these pictures, they allow me to imagine a way of life that I know nothing about. I can't wait to visit after I retire.
#4 in the yearbook photo definitely looks like a wise-mouthed side character who gives all the men in her life the what-for. I’d love to see her story play out.
Oh my gosh, I love this! I’m from outside Boston and the islands are very dear to me. Also I love using place extensively in my fiction. Really excited to see where you’re going with this story! These are great photos and the historical context sounds interesting. Have fun with it :)
No way! That’s so fun. I love both islands so much. And the Cape. And all those amazing towns in Mass like Marblehead and Duxbury and Crane Beach and Plum Island. I took a job at the Globe years ago just to live closer to all of those beautiful places. Where do you live now?? Ty so much for reading. ;)
Such beautiful places! I wrote about some of them in my first couple posts here. And my brother is at Boston.com :) Maybe you guys have crossed paths. I live in Basel (Switzerland) -- amazing mountains but no sea. Can’t really complain; it has its own beauty! Have lived abroad a long time but always love going “home.”
It's really interesting to see how you're visualizing the novel as you write. I'd love to see more of this from you!

Wow — that is so interesting. What kind of art series? Please share it once you finish! It’s amazing where we all get our creative inspiration from!
