I am 70 years old and although I don't sleep with my 69 year old Raggedy Ann, she still sits in my cabinet along with her twin who my Mom gave me when I turned 21, 49 years ago. Also my brother still has his cat lovey and he is older than I am, but after years of sleeping with him as a kid the cat is pretty flat and grey (started out as pastel blue). So to answer the question, you keep the lovey always!

You always keep them. I still have my own teddy with a proud new Build-a-Bear top on 🤭 My own children in their early twenties are happy to know I have kept theirs.

Aw! Yes, we had Bear and Tigey, our own snowy sidewalk story, and even some imposters. Those ratty loveys tug on my heartstrings.

Reading your words, I’m immediately thinking about one of my favorite childhood books: Ira Sleeps Over. Do you know this book? I slept with my blankie (ok it was a schmata) until I went to college; a piece of it was sown into the inside of my wedding dress. I don’t know where the rest of it is now, it may be gone…but the thoughts & memories live on forever. Sounds like your son has that part figured out for himself & his relationship with Bear-Bear.

The Imposter has such a sweet tone and positive message for kids! Great job, Laura. Pictures are adorable too :)
